College Degrees Are A Waste of Money

College Degrees Are A Waste of MoneyTraditional 4 year degrees are:

  1. A total waste of money.

  2. Guarantee nothing except a boatload of debt.

  3. Teach you only how to achieve the most amount of work for the least amount of effort.

  4. Not an effective way to figure out your ultimate dream job.

I guess I should explain each of my opinions because they are so radical and different. Scary, isn't it, that someone might actually be telling you NOT to go to college?

1. College is a total waste of money - This is my personal experience, but only one of the college students I knew put their degree to work after graduating. What's the point of getting it then? Unless you're going to use it, why buy it? It's kind of like buying a microwave oven, but then taking it home to find that you don't like to microwave your food, so you never use it.

2. College guarantees nothing but a boatload of debt - College racked me up with more than $6,000 worth of debt in less than 2 years. If you don't get a job and start paying that debt off immediately, your rates will adjust and you'll start paying higher and higher interest rates every year. What if you want to get married, buy a house, or travel the world after graduating? Do you think you'll be able to do that with $12,000 or more in student loans?

3. College will teach you only how to achieve the most amount of work for the least amount of effort - I can't count the number of times I witnessed students cramming for tests, pulling all-nighters to finish papers, and organizing copy sessions to complete labs long overdue. You don't have to work hard to go to college! If you do your work will not be rewarded because all the cheating losers around you will be making better grades while doing half the work.

4. College is not an effective way to figure out your dream job - Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? Are you absolutely certain, passionate, and craving that job with every fiber of your being? What is that job? Do you absolutely have to get a degree to work that job?

College Degrees are a Waste of MoneyIf you aren't sure or undecided in the least, DON'T GO TO COLLEGE! You will be wasting your money. Colleges love the students that arrive undecided. They usually take a year or two to flounder around before making up their mind to study some bullshit science. These students then stay in college for 5 or 6 years working on their degree to make up for the time lost by wandering aimlessly as freshmen.

Unless you have a plan - a clear, concise, direct path to your dream job, college will just get you lost. I don't know about you, but I would much rather take a few years to figure things out and make money working a 9 to 5 job than get lost in a place that costs $3,000 or more a year to be lost in.

Most high school students are not even slightly decided on what they want to major in. Your honest hopes and aspirations are usually clobbered out of you with the sobering advice to "Just get a degree! You need an education."

Don't let someone else's opinion of your life change the way you live your life.
Ultimately you will be the one that's living it.
